Control Spotify From a Second Monitor While designing
Park the Web Player on one screen and drive it from the other.
💡 Overview
A second screen is a luxury, until it fills with windows. Design tools want the whole canvas, and switching windows breaks the pixel-level focus you build up.
Because the extension talks to the Web Player tab wherever it lives, you can leave it on another monitor, or even in another Chrome window, and still control it from the popup or by hotkey. Your main window stays untouched.
🧭 A Day of UI and Graphic Designers
Design tools want the whole canvas, and switching windows breaks the pixel-level focus you build up.
The problem: Changing a track in the middle of a layout shouldn't require leaving your design file.
The fix: Park the mini-player in the toolbar popup and use the volume scroll wheel to duck music during client calls.
🚀 Try It in Three Steps
- Move the Spotify tab to a second window or monitor.
- Pin the extension on your main window.
- Control playback from the popup or with the shortcuts.
✨ What You Get
- Device quick-switcher: One click to the Spotify Connect device drawer from the mini-player header.
- Zero-polling design: A MutationObserver updates the UI only when the page changes, keeping CPU and memory use low.
- Playback speed 0.5x to 2.0x: Presets at 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x and 2.0x, locked across track changes.
| Task | Switching tabs | Spotify-Web Playback Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Liking a song | Open the tab, click the heart | Tap the heart in the popup or press L |
| Privacy | Depends on the tool | No credentials collected, local analytics |
| Resource use | A full tab in the foreground | Observer-based, near-zero overhead |
| Skipping a track | Switch window, click next, switch back | Shift+Alt+Right from any window |
Note: it works with the Spotify Web Player at open.spotify.com only, and does not control the desktop app.
