Spotify Mini-Player in Chrome for Software Developers
A compact popup with album art, seek, shuffle, repeat and like.
💡 Overview
Sometimes you want to see the song, not just control it. You live in an editor, a terminal and a browser full of docs, and every context switch costs you the mental stack you just built.
Click the toolbar icon and the mini-player opens with a blurred, color-adaptive backdrop drawn from the current album art. It offers play, pause, next, previous, shuffle and repeat, a draggable progress bar for seeking, and a one-tap Liked Songs toggle that mirrors the state on the Web Player. Dark and light themes follow your system.
🧭 A Day of Software Developers
You live in an editor, a terminal and a browser full of docs, and every context switch costs you the mental stack you just built.
The problem: Reaching for the Spotify tab mid-debug means leaving the stack trace you were reading.
The fix: Bind play/pause to a shortcut you can hit with your left hand while your right stays on the mouse or trackpad.
🚀 Try It in Three Steps
- Click the extension icon to open the mini-player.
- Drag the progress bar to seek, or tap the heart to like the track.
- Switch themes or presets from the dashboard if you want a different look.
✨ What You Get
- Local focus analytics: Daily and weekly focus time, a seven-day chart and top artists and tracks, all stored on your device.
- Shortcut profiles: Standard, one-handed WASD, compact Alt+arrows and function-key presets.
- Zero-polling design: A MutationObserver updates the UI only when the page changes, keeping CPU and memory use low.
| Task | Switching tabs | Spotify-Web Playback Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | Any app, any tab | Spotify Web Player (open.spotify.com) only |
| Resource use | A full tab in the foreground | Observer-based, near-zero overhead |
| Pausing music | Find the tab, click pause, return | One keystroke |
| Liking a song | Open the tab, click the heart | Tap the heart in the popup or press L |
Note: it works with the Spotify Web Player at open.spotify.com only, and does not control the desktop app.
