Skip Songs Without Leaving Your Work While studying
Change tracks with a keystroke, not a window switch.
💡 Overview
A bad song at the wrong time is a small tax on concentration. Opening Spotify to fix the volume often turns into five minutes of browsing playlists instead.
Next and previous track are bound to Shift+Alt+Right and Shift+Alt+Left by default. The extension passes the command to the Web Player in the background, so the song changes while your work window keeps focus. There is no flash of another tab and no lost cursor position.
🧭 A Day of University Students
A study block is a fragile thing: notes, a PDF, a timer and a playlist all compete for attention.
The problem: Opening Spotify to fix the volume often turns into five minutes of browsing playlists instead.
The fix: Keep the Web Player in one pinned tab and never open it again; control it from the mini-player or hotkeys.
🚀 Try It in Three Steps
- Press Shift+Alt+Right the moment a track stops helping.
- Press Shift+Alt+Left to jump back to the previous track.
- Use the popup if you want to see the track and artwork before choosing.
✨ What You Get
- Zero-polling design: A MutationObserver updates the UI only when the page changes, keeping CPU and memory use low.
- Playback speed 0.5x to 2.0x: Presets at 1.0x, 1.25x, 1.5x and 2.0x, locked across track changes.
- Device quick-switcher: One click to the Spotify Connect device drawer from the mini-player header.
| Task | Switching tabs | Spotify-Web Playback Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Volume change | Open the tab, drag a slider | Scroll the mouse wheel over the popup |
| Privacy | Depends on the tool | No credentials collected, local analytics |
| Liking a song | Open the tab, click the heart | Tap the heart in the popup or press L |
| Resource use | A full tab in the foreground | Observer-based, near-zero overhead |
Note: it works with the Spotify Web Player at open.spotify.com only, and does not control the desktop app.
