One-Handed Spotify Control for Linux Users
Shortcut profiles including a WASD-style one-handed layout.
💡 Overview
Sometimes one hand is busy. Chrome runs on Linux, and so does the Web Player.
Beyond the default Shift+Alt+arrow set, the dashboard offers shortcut profiles: Standard, a one-handed WASD set using Alt+Shift with W, S, A and D, a compact Alt+arrows set and a function-key set using Ctrl with F6 to F9. Pick whichever matches the hand that is free.
🧭 A Day of Linux Users
Chrome runs on Linux, and so does the Web Player.
The problem: Desktop media daemons may not see your web tab.
The fix: An extension in the browser works the same regardless of your desktop environment.
🚀 Try It in Three Steps
- Open the dashboard from the extension.
- Choose a shortcut profile such as WASD or function keys.
- Check the bindings in chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
✨ What You Get
- Floating mini-player: Popup with play, pause, next, previous, shuffle, repeat, seek and a Liked Songs toggle.
- Four default hotkeys: Shift+Alt+Up toggles play and pause, Right skips, Left goes back and Down pauses only.
- Shortcut profiles: Standard, one-handed WASD, compact Alt+arrows and function-key presets.
| Task | Switching tabs | Spotify-Web Playback Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Pausing music | Find the tab, click pause, return | One keystroke |
| Skipping a track | Switch window, click next, switch back | Shift+Alt+Right from any window |
| Scope | Any app, any tab | Spotify Web Player (open.spotify.com) only |
| Focus impact | Context switch every time | Your work window keeps focus |
Note: it works with the Spotify Web Player at open.spotify.com only, and does not control the desktop app.
